Question Slide Show Question - 05-09-2006, 09:53 AM

I'm looking at using Photodex Pro Show Gold to make a slide show with music. Does anyone know how many photos and music can be put on a cd? I'm thinking at least 100 photos and possibly mp3 for sound. I have a cd burner and Nero to burn the cd. I'm just wondering if I need to purchase and install a dvd writer or if a cd is large enough?

Haven't downloaded the Pro Show Gold yet. Thought someone here would know because I know some of you have done this. Thanks.

You should be able to fit it on there without any problems. There is even a check section which you can reduce the overall size of the images by 20% if you run into space problems. However with just 100 images you should be fine.

Some friends were kicking around slide show ideas and I said "why not powerpoint?" ;-)

But, I am interested in photo slide shows and had heard of Photodex software. Does anyone here have a show they would not mind sharing? I want to see what real people can do with this software and not the people who made it.

Thanks!

By the way Mark Ridout who has a lot of show on Photodex is a real photographer who made shows with their software BEFORE he was picked up by Photodex to "work" for them. His shows are done by real people as you stated and they are so good Photodex just picked him up. Also Mark is a good friend of mine so I promise you he just happened to be at the right place at the right time, he is just a simple down to earth guy.

I use ProShow Gold all the time and have done over 300 photos and music w/no problem. I'm in the process of doing 450 (slides . . . ick) for a show and think it will be fine, too.l

I went to your website, installed ActiveX. Then it asked to install Photodex stuff. All viewers MUSt do that in order to view? If that's the case, it's a little disappointing coz I dont want to have to keep installing new and more stuff onto my pc. Anything I did wrong? Or anything else that can resolve this issue?

Thanks and thanks for the link Mike. I watched a few of yours and one I timed without the intro and exit. You had one song that played while displaying 34 photos. I don't know how much space that uses though. BTW, Nice job on those.

I should be able to figure this out. The large jpg on a 20D are about 3000KB on average I'd say so about 3 mb each? A cd can hold 700-750 mb. MP3's are near the same depending on the song. Are mp3's the preferred format for the music? I guess based on the 700 mb you should be able to get 233 photos and or mp3's on one cd. If a song takes 30 photos to play through my calculations are 212 photos and 7 songs as a ballpark figure allowing for variations in length and file size of the music and the photo. Sound about right?

Also, do you create the show with Pro Show Gold then use Nero to burn the cd or can you burn it with proshow gold? What format do you burn the cd to? Do you downsize your photos and if so, what do you use to determine the size? Sorry, lot's of questions.

I have been using slide shows for years. One major problem that I have encountered is the use of firewalls for businesses and institutions. They disable many of the slide shows created with many of the programs. Thus, they cannot be seen by those you wish to view them.
I know use Dreamweaver Flash to create my slide shows. No software has to be installed in order to view them, and for now, they get past the firewalls and allow people to actually see them.
I hope this helps.
