have an image from a 6 mpix camera which I have been requested to make a 16 by 20 print. so this got me thinking is it better to upsize photo then crop, or is it better to crop then jack the resolution back up?

will be using bicubic smoother for increasing size.

Try them both. Not full size prints, just 4x6 prints of an important part.

I think you are enlarging the same amount both ways, however. For example, 20x. Upsizing before cropping just takes more horsepower because you are working on a bigger picture, and then you have to throw away the part you do not need.

I've always had good luck by just leaving the resolution blank and letting the lab upsize the photo. Either way you shouldn't have a problem unless your doing a huge crop.

yeah, i just send my huge jpg up to mpix and they do it all for me. and my 16x20 came out nice.
