Actually, the D700, D3s, and D3x have DX mode. The D3s and D3x automatically switch to DX mode with a DX lens is attached. I don't know about the D700 if it auto sense and switch to DX mode.

The D700 does auto sense it but you can turn that feature off and leave it on FX full time, regardless of the lens mounted. Is it not the same with the D3(s)(x)? I'll find out on Wednesday when my D3 arrives
