Hey guys,

I grew up in Dallas and am now a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, and am back home for a little while, at least until I start law school at Baylor in February. In the meantime, I'd like to introduce myself to the community and see if you guys have any pointers or tips for me. I've been shooting with my Rebel XT for about a year now, and was studying abroad last spring, so the bulk of my shooting resume is from Europe, but I had an old Nikon film SLR I used around downtown Dallas, Las Colinas, etc.

Anyways, hi, and also, for Christmas, I got a sweet tripod and the RC-1 so I can get into some night shooting (which is my weak spot). Any suggestions for some really pretty downtown Dallas nightscapes? I seem to never really find good vantage points of the whole skyline, and come on, I need a nice 16 x 20 of home at night for my wall!

Thanks guys,

Nick

Welcome back.

There is a hospital in Oak Cliff (St Pauls?) whose parking garage was an excellent spot for the skyline, but I believe they've built a building next to it, blocking the view. IIRC, there's a hotel in Oak Cliff that is now the best place, but you need to get permission from the hotel before shooting from it. Do a search of this forum because there was a thread on it. The levees are also good.

Yes, Methodist Hospital and I think they are referring to the Hotel Belmont on Ft. Worth Ave. It does have a great view of downtown from it's pool area.

Welcome to the forum. This will be a good distraction from law school!
