design your own studio from the ground up and would like to make it large and well equipped enough to grow in, how would you design it.

A couple of assumptions to work with.

1. No you haven't won the lottery :)

2. 2000 - 4000 sq ft budget.

other than that the space is open, what would you want in it and why?

Thanks,

Canon gear all the way around, just toss in a bunch of other accessories and you have an addiction.

Thanks for asking that question Todd! Hubby and I are about to move and we are looking for a house that has an extra room so I can do the same thing. I would love to know what demensions the room should be in order to have a proper studio. As for lights, All I have used in the past were novatrons with softboxes. I rent a studio in richardson when I need a studio. But I dont want to continue doing that.

If you are talking about renting commercial space to build out then I would go with at least a 10 ft ceiling and 15 if possible. Overhead door to bring in large objects-shooting that one car may pay a lot of bills. Of course a small room that you can go too to get away from everything.

Otherwise I would say just be sure that you have plenty of open space, power outlets, and if you can manage windows facing north.

I wouldn't want to shoot at the house.. too much chaos going on there on a regular basis.

Guess that means its a good thing that I just signed the lease on that studio space. :) (Email me for details if you are interested in the 360 corridor.)
